The Delta Lambda and Delta Beta Xi Awards

On October 6, 1963 , the first step toward reactivating the Gamma Zeta Chapter began when 17 men organized a local fraternity at Bowling Green State University know as Delta Lambda. On March 13, 1965 , after a ten-year absence from Bowling Green State University , Delta Lambda local fraternity, became Alpha Sigma Phi; and like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, the Gamma Zeta Chapter was reactivated.

The Delta Lambda award was first created in 1967 and was awarded to an outstanding senior member of the chapter at that time. In 2001, the Alumni Council reinstated the award so that all Brothers of the Gamma Zeta Chapter would never forget the dedicated work of the men of Delta Lambda.

The Delta Lambda award is presented every year at Homecoming to an alumnus demonstrating outstanding service to the Gamma Zeta Chapter.

After graduating from BGSU, Gordy traveled for the National Fraternity serving as a Chapter Leadership Consultant. He then returned to BGSU and earned a Master's degree in College Student Personnel. During his graduate studies he continued to be involved with the Fraternity by serving on the Alumni Council in a variety of roles to include: decade representative, secretary and president of the Council.  He has continued to serve the undergraduate chapter as the University Faculty Advisor, a role he assumed in 2004. Joe Zimmerman '77 is awarded the 2005 Delta Beta Xi Key for outstanding service to the Alpha Sigma Phi Gamma Zeta Fraternity and Alumni Association.  Thanks Joe for your many hours of selfless service, donations, and dedication.

The Delta Beta Xi Key - This award key, a replica of the Delta Beta Xi badge worn by members of the Alpha Chapter at Yale from 1864 to 1875, recognizes outstanding service to the Fraternity. It is worn only by Brothers who are recipients of the award of Delta Beta Xi. Each year the Grand Council elects no more than ten Brothers to receive the award nationally. Brothers who are recipients of the Delta Beta Xi key are nominated by chapters or alumni brothers. The Delta Beta Xi key is suspended by a cardinal-and-stone ribbon, similar to a military medal.
